Supplier Information Technology Assessment form
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a very broad term that describes the process of creating and managing digital information about a built asset such as a building, bridge, highway, tunnel, and so on.
Supplier Information Technology Assessment forms may be required as part of the procurement processes on projects where BIM has been adopted. They are completed by each individual supplier in the project supply chain, describing their general IT resources and policies. It enables them to demonstrate their IT maturity as well as their capabilities in terms of information exchange. It can also help highlight the convergences and contrasts between the supplier’s IT systems and those of the project.
PAS 1192-2 suggests that a Supply Chain Capability Summary (SCCS) forms part of the project implementation plan and should be submitted by prospective suppliers as part of their pre-contract BIM Execution Plan. The SCCS form is prepared based on Supplier Resource Assessment Forms completed by each relevant organisation in the sub-contract procurement process, detailing their resource capability and capacity. The Supplier Information Technology Assessment form helps to inform the Supplier Resource Assessment Forms.
The form consists of two sections:
- Information exchange: Sets out the type of electronic data and information that the organisation is willing to exchange.
- Software and systems: Describes the maturity and robustness of the organisation’s IT systems and procedures.
The type of information that may be contained within the form includes:
- General information about the organisation, their role on the project, and details of key individuals who are likely to be involved in information exchange.
- Information that is normally produced, or is likely to be produced, on the project as well as the types and formats of information that will be shared electronically with others in the project team.
- The drawing and CAD modelling approaches used by the organisation.
- Details of in-house document numbering systems.
- The organisation’s experience with web-based project tools.
- Any limitations placed on the organisation’s ability to exchange electronic information by insurers.
- Email distribution policies.
- Policies on internet usage.
- Technical information on software and systems.
- Capability to transport and receive information in different formats.
- Recovery systems and procedures.
- Archiving systems and procedures.
- Security systems.
